Spotlight on The Standard: Food, Fun, and Community in Downtown Fort Myers
Farm Truck Financial recently welcomed a very special guest: Chris, the owner of The Standard Restaurant in downtown Fort Myers. Known for its scratch-made menu, lively entertainment, and unwavering support of local charities, The Standard has become a hub for both food lovers and the community.
A Restaurant That’s All About Food and Fun
From the beginning, Chris makes it clear that The Standard is about more than serving meals. It’s a place where people gather for entertainment and memorable experiences. With events like Drag Queen Karaoke Brunches, monthly karaoke contests in partnership with local radio stations, and live music through Singo, The Standard ensures that every visit is about more than just eating.
But the food is the foundation. As a scratch kitchen, everything is prepared fresh—from house-made pasta and sausage to hand-cut fries and signature sauces. It’s a commitment that keeps regulars coming back and new visitors impressed.
Giving Back to the Community
The Standard isn’t just a restaurant; it’s a partner in community support. Chris shared how weekly Bingo nights raise money for local causes, with proceeds benefiting animal shelters, women’s programs, and other charities across Southwest Florida. Additionally, events like Singo also contribute directly to funding music programs in local schools.
This dedication to giving back has become part of The Standard’s identity. As Chris explains, “We’ve raised a lot of money over the last couple of years,” and the community continues to rally around the efforts.
Fort Myers on the Rise
Downtown Fort Myers has been undergoing a remarkable transformation. With new marinas, condos, and apartments being developed along the river, the area has become a thriving hub for residents and visitors alike.
For business owners like Chris, the growth brings opportunity. More people downtown means more chances to introduce them to The Standard’s award-winning food and atmosphere. As Eric Kearney notes in the conversation, “Every time the city improves, it helps small businesses thrive.”
A Lifetime in the Food Industry
Chris has more than 30 years of experience in the food business, beginning with his time working in a New York deli at age 16. There he learned the fundamentals of classic Italian cooking—making fresh mozzarella, sausage, pasta, and meatballs. These recipes and traditions have stayed with him ever since, now forming the backbone of The Standard’s menu.
For nearly a decade, Chris has brought those traditions to Fort Myers. This September marks The Standard’s 10th anniversary, which will be celebrated with a street-closing party featuring food, fun, and live entertainment.
Award-Winning Dishes
The Standard isn’t just known for its atmosphere—it’s recognized for its food. The restaurant proudly holds the title of #1 Burger in Lee County, made from a special blend of chuck and brisket, served fresh with bacon, cheese, and hand-cut fries.
Other customer favorites include the Radio City egg rolls, stuffed with house-made pastrami and corned beef, paired with homemade slaw and Russian dressing. The beloved Radio City sandwich, a staple for the past nine years, pays homage to Chris’ New York roots.
And then there are the classics—meatballs, sausage, and pasta recipes carried down from his family and perfected over four decades. They represent the comfort food that has stood the test of time and keeps guests coming back.
More Than Just a Meal
For Chris, running The Standard is about more than food. It’s about creating memories, celebrating with the community, and carrying forward the recipes and traditions that shaped his life. Whether it’s supporting a local charity, throwing a block party, or serving up the best burger in town, The Standard is a place where Fort Myers gathers to eat, laugh, and give back.
